Body Wisdom for Women

A bit about me...

I'm a Chiropractor, Mumma of four (2 mine, 2 his), and someone who spent 15 years rebuilding my own body.... mostly because I kept breaking it first, trying to get it to "bounce back". We didn't. Instead I just dragged myself commando crawling forward.

I arrived at motherhood doing all the "right" fitness things; I cross fitted, did pilates, ran, stretched, pelvic floor exercises, I was aiming to be that fit pregnant woman who would return to my exercise lifestyle. Then, as it does, motherhood and life served me a completely different story.

By the end of my first pregnancy I could barely walk. Osteitis pubis and chronic pain hit hard. And after a long difficult birth that resulted in significant tearing, incontinence and lots of pain, I tried to return to exercise. Six times I went back to the gym. Six times my body shut down with injury and illness. I was a health professional who couldn't fix herself. And so my journey into women's centred health began.....

Write your awesome label here.

Women don't bounce back in life, nor should they - they are not pieces of elastic.
They are forever transformed by life and that is not a flaw, it is evolution.
What they need to know is how to move their body's forward to live their life.
A map towards their next chapter.

There was almost no information then, and it's been a slow breadcrumb-trail of trial and error to put myself and then other women, back together. That was 15 years, multiple miscarriages, years of breastfeeding, a decade of co-sleeping, a prolapse, a prolapse worsening and another (ten-and-a-half-pound) baby, hello separated abs - ago. Now, I finally feel I'm on my way with my body, and I can finally lay down a path for other women to walk.

I took my chiropractic knowledge and studied under bio-mechanists, movement specialists and physiotherapists. That gives me a unique view point.

It didn't take me long to recognise in my practice that I was not alone. Many women are struggling to function well in daily life and in their basic movement, let alone exercise. I learned that conventional strength models simply aren't complete in returning women to strength and stability. I saw how this loss of function correlates with the loss of the women themselves - their inner strength, certainty, vitality and joy disappeared with the function.

That reinforced my why. I want women to be able to live full lives
.

Today, I still live with diastasis recti, scar tissue, prolapse, and the consequences of surgeries and injuries. I am not "fixed", there is no fully fixing some of these things. I still care for my body daily, but, I have reclaimed my physical function and I can enjoy my movement filled lifestyle. I simply keep walking forward.
